It’s a bitch to peak early.
And after being chosen for the lead in Hans Brinker and the Silver Skates in 5th grade, that risk became real, and personal, for me.
Then redemption. A Talent Show was in the offing. Having played Big Chief Wahoo in the prior year’s talent show and being totally upstaged by some nerd who played Beethoven or some shit, I was truly conflicted.
Then Jim Hoeft came to the rescue with Three Dog Night. He had the idea to do an air band tribute to Mama Told Me Not To Come. Since that got shut down by our teacher, we retreated to Eli’s Coming (it’s great having friends with devious older brothers..thank you Doug Hoeft).
And since that is truly the apex of my miserable life, I am hoping and praying that we can reconvene for a Jam at the re-union. Just need Jim Hoeft, Tod Chatfield, Don Thomas and Andy Mommaerts.
Please pray for me….all of the above could have been a dream.
